Ayah, Ini Arahnya ke Mana, Ya? is a family drama film directed by Kuntz Agus and produced by Five Elements Pictures. The film stars Baskara Mahendra as Bumi, Mawar de Jongh as Dira, Rey Bong as Darin, Unique Priscilla as Lia (mother), and Dwi Sasono as Yudi (father). The film presents emotional portrayal of family relationships, especially focusing on the role of a father and affects his children. The storytelling is simple yet meaningful, making it relatable to many audiences.
The story followed a father who was not fully present in his family life. During an important moment in his daughter life, he was absent, which created disappointment and emotional distance between them. Meanwhile, his son Darin was involved in negative behavior such as fighting, reflecting his inner frustration and lack of guidance. As the story developed, it became clear that the father was not entirely uncaring, but rather someone who struggled to fulfill his role due to his own past. Having grown up without a father figure, he did not know how to properly express love or responsibility.
The conflict in the story grew from a lack of communication. The father often chose silence instead of explaining himself, which led to misunderstandings between him and his children. This emotional gap slowly widened over time. Dira, as the daughter, eventually took on more responsibility within the family, almost replacing the role that should have been carried by the father. The film built its tension through subtle moments, conversations, and even silence, allowing the audience to feel the frustration, sadness, and confusion experienced by each character. Without revealing too much, the story continued to develop in a way that kept the audience emotionally engaged and curious about the truth behind the father’s behavior.
The main theme of this film is family, especially the importance of communication and emotional presence. The film also highlights how misunderstandings can grow when people do not openly express their feelings. It shows that being physically present is not enough without emotional connection and understanding.
In my opinion, this film is very emotional and impactful. The storyline feels realistic and close to real life, making it easy for the audience to relate to the characters. The acting performances are strong and natural, especially in delivering emotional scenes. The dialogue is simple but meaningful, and it does not feel exaggerated. The cinematography is visually pleasing and supports the emotional atmosphere of the film. In addition, the background music is very effective in building the mood and enhancing emotional scenes, making some moments deeply touching.
The strength of this film lies in its emotional depth and its ability to connect with the audience through its storytelling. It successfully makes the audience feel various emotions such as anger, sadness, and empathy. However, one of its weaknesses is the slow pacing and the lack of open communication between characters, which might feel frustrating for some viewers. Despite this, the frustration itself becomes part of the film’s strength because it reflects real-life situations.
The message of this film is about the importance of communication, understanding, and not judging others too quickly. It reminds us that everyone has their own struggles and past experiences that shape who they are. The film also teaches that silence can create distance, while honesty and openness can help rebuild relationships.
